Insurance cover for players in ICC events
All players participating in the ICC events will now have better insurance cover. According to the sources in Dubai, the modelities of this are likely to be discussed among the members of the CEC (Chief Executive Committee) meeting scheduled to take place this week.
Perhaps the issue has arisen after the recent postponement of the ICC Champions Trophy due to the security concern, where players from few nations refused to participate in the tournament in Pakistan where they feared for their lives.
In the past also the ICC ensured proper level of the insurance and security covers for the players but now the special agreement will be formed to ensure that they are insured at “more appropriate level”.
However, it was not known up to what level the insurance cover was there for the teams in the last World Cup where Bob Woolmer, the coach of the Pakistani team lost his life.
The ICC will do the risk analysis from now onwards for all their events — World Cup and Champions Trophy.
